Since human beings began to exchange money for goods, the consumer has been a very important figure. We buy out of necessity, for pleasure, and even for both reasons simultaneously.

Taking consumer rights seriously is one of ArtOuro's commitments. But we go further and understand that people are different even when it comes to buying, that is, behind every type of consumer, there is you.

Consumer Day was created to always protect and remember consumer rights, not only among people who consume, but also for companies and stores to remember their commitment to respect all laws that protect their consumers.

The date was first established in 1962 by President of the United States John Kennedy as a way to rescue protection of the interests of American consumers. In his speech, Kennedy stressed that every consumer has the right, essentially, to security, information, choice and to be heard.

After 23 years of Kennedy's action, in 1985, the United Nations General Assembly adopted March 15 as World Consumer Day, based on United Nations guidelines, giving legitimacy and recognition.

In Brazil, consumer rights are protected by Law No. 8.078, of September 11, 1990, but it only came into force on March 11, 1991. With the Consumer Protection Code, the Protection and Defense Program was created of the Consumer (PROCON), which is present throughout the national territory.

The PROCON's and the consumer protection movements put pressure on the Constituent Congress, which accepted the proposal to insert consumer protection in the Federal Constitution of 1988: item XXXII, of article 5, says that “the State shall promote, in accordance with the law, consumer protection”.

Want to become a conscious consumer? Check out our tips:

– Don’t spend more than you earn: Conscious and responsible consumption starts with your own pocket. The spending limit should be the income itself. Can't earn more? So spend less.

– Know how much you spend: Those who don't know how much they spend, always spend more than they can. Take notes.

– Require tax proof: It's more than a simple piece of paper. It is a way to ensure your rights, in addition to facilitating the control of your own accounts.

– Know and demand your rights: Invoice, warranty term, meeting deadlines, validity control, good quality and good service are items you pay for. Demand it.

– Do not buy on impulse: Planning and self-control are key words. Thought about buying? Search. Compare. Negotiate. Value your money. Was it in doubt? Do not buy.

– Prefer cash purchases: Main reason? Those who buy in cash do not go into debt.
