Certainly diamonds are a true dream of consumption for many women. The beauty of the stone still turns the head of the female universe and makes partners work hard to be able to present them with one! But… when you decide to buy a copy, you don't want a poor quality stone, do you? Thus, in order not to make a mistake in the purchase, it is very important to understand the diamond grade. Keep reading our post and find out!
Subdivisions
Diamonds are subdivided into four categories known as the 4Cs. For a quality recognition analysis, consider four main requirements: the Carat (carats), the Color, the Cut and the Clarity. These categories define which are the most valuable diamonds, keeping in mind that colored diamonds follow another evaluation criterion. Know now the quality requirements of a diamond:
Carat
Carat is an English word that is equivalent to carat in Portuguese. In the case of diamond, it must be 1/5 of a gram, that is, 200 milligrams. As the world of diamonds contains very few specimens with more than 1 carat, a world convention determined that each carat is equivalent to 100 points. This is a measure used to relate the size of stones and, consequently, their value. Thus, the higher the score, the more valuable it will be.
Color:
A diamond is most valuable when its color is as close as possible to colorless, transparent. There is an international classification to determine the color of the diamond all over the world, giving greater control to this measurement. In this case, the measurement goes from the letter D to the letter Z, with the letter D being the most colorless diamond found.
Cutting
The measurement made by cutting is more complex to understand. In Portuguese it is related to cutting, which is a very important feature to define the brightness of diamonds. The cut is in the hands of the cutters and is based on three main requirements: luminosity, fire and sparkle.
The first of these, luminosity, measures the ability of the stone to reflect the sun's rays. Fire, on the other hand, considers the so-called sparkle, while scintillation is a mixture of the first two: the flashes of light and the sparkle coming from the diamonds when they move. These are considerable attributes that give a diamond a lot of value.
Clarity
Ultimately, the clarity (or purity) of diamonds is the analysis of how many inclusions there are in the stone. As it is formed inside the Earth, diamond can have internal inclusions or external blemishes, which are very common. The greater the number of marks, the more the stone is devalued, while the more “clean”, the more expensive it will be.
These and other measurements follow the international standard Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Color Gradation Scale. After a database change, the institute recently invalidated more than XNUMX diamond ratings, giving more control over quality measurement. So diamonds are sent for checks whenever they don't match the original report.
