Many men face cancer in silence, when they don't have to. This is one of the messages contained on the website of the Movember Foundation, which encourages men to grow a mustache during the month of November to symbolize change as a way for them to also change the way they “face” their own health care.

Abroad the campaign is called Movember (mustache= mustache + november= November). The movement, started in 2003 in a pub in Australia, was created by two young men who found 30 men willing to let their mustaches grow as a way to publicize the “Movember” campaign, raising funds for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia ( pCFA). At the time, the action led to the largest single donation ever received by the foundation.

Today, the movement is worldwide, with more than 5 million members worldwide and growing every day. Even the mustache became little for the participants. Currently, it is common No shave November (November without shaving, in free translation). During this period, those involved grow not only the mustache, but also the beard. The idea is for as many people as possible to use the color blue, the mustache and the beard to make the “unintelligent” curious as to why and then spread awareness about prostate cancer prevention through regular exams.

In 2008, the campaign “A touch, a dribble” was created by Instituto Lado a Lado pela Vida in partnership with the Brazilian Society of Urology. In 2012, inspired by the Movember, the institute started promoting actions focused on men's health throughout the month of November. Thus, Blue November was born. The campaign is still growing around here, but last year 2200 official actions were carried out across the country and, just like in the Pink October, there is the beautiful lighting of sights.

Prostate cancer, the 6⁰ most common type in the world, occurs mainly in older men. About 6 out of 10 cases are diagnosed in men over 65 years old, being rare before the age of 40. Thus, it is recommended that prevention be carried out from the age of 45 if there is a high risk for the appearance of cancer ; if not, the man should visit the urologist annually from the age of 50 and perform the touch test and the PSA, the main means of detecting the disease early, when the chances of cure are greater and the treatments are less invasive. Always talk to your doctor to clarify doubts and break prejudices. Remember that early detection can save your life.
