There are dozens of gems and Brazil alone produces 90 different types. Some are very well known and several of them are mentioned in the Bible. Others are known only to a restricted portion of the population, either because they were discovered in relatively recent times, or because they are not easily found on the market.
We will see one of these Brazilian gems: the citrus. Follow!
The citrine, known as “the brother of amethyst”, has a hue that varies from yellow to orange – exceptionally, cognac-toned gemstones are found, in which case it is worth much more.
It is important to point out that citrine is extremely rare in Rio Grande do Sul and that production comes from heating the amethyst, which causes oxidation of the iron in it and consequent color change. This is done when the amethyst color is too weak, preventing it from fetching a good price in the market. However, heat treatment does not always give a product of great value. What they call “Rio Grande topaz” in trade is nothing more than this citrine.
For long years, it was known as the Sunstone derived from Greek and Roman beliefs, where it was famous for being a symbol of the sun. It is the birthstone for those born in November and the sign of Gemini.
Brazil and Scotland are the world's largest producers of citrus, although many South American countries are sources of citrus, including Argentina, Bolivia and Uruguay, but Brazil produces some of the best citrus in the world, which is known for its warm tones and unique, ranging from yellow to red. The color is the result of the combination of high pressure and high temperature during its formation of manganese and titanium.
Associated with success and prosperity, citrine mirrors the power of the sun in the designs of ArtOuro. For women, it creates a way to celebrate femininity and modernity at the same time.
