Necklaces, earrings, bracelets and the classic engagement ring. They bring to mind the idea of celebration, romance and durability. It is not for nothing that the maxim “Diamonds last forever” is repeated from the seven winds. This is precisely why diamonds are used in marriage proposals, as they are associated with the idea of durability, eternal as well as love.
The point is that, in addition to the romanticism and playfulness that surround precious stones, their value is commercially measurable. Want to know how? Continue reading and find out what defines the value of a gemstone!
Color:
The darker and more intense the color, the higher the market value of the stone. The diamond is an exception and works in the opposite way: the more transparent, the more valuable. Unless it is of a defined color, then it falls back into the rule of other colored stones.
Within the color analysis, there are some specifications. Such as matrix position: this is the color in question, such as green, red and blue (most popular colors among buyers and which appear in emerald, ruby and sapphire). Saturation: color intensity; richer and more closed tones, therefore more intense, have a higher market value. Tone: the stone absorbs shades of light and dark around it and this is also taken into account. Jewelry is often worn at night, so a more valuable stone should look good even in dimly lit environments.
Pureza
Small fragments, such as internal inclusions in stones, affect their purchase value. The lesser the amount of type defects the stone has, the better. In case these defects can be identified with the naked eye, the stone will definitely have a lower value. In situations where these small abrasions can only be identified with the help of specialized instruments, the issue of purity is no longer so relevant for pricing. Some of these cracks can impact the durability of the stone depending on their location or depth, which is also taken into account.
Cut
This is an important factor. If a pure raw stone with an intense color is considered to be of high value, cutting can help or harm the final result. A poorly cut stone is not well received in the market. Particular attention needs to be paid to shape, style of cut, proportions, symmetry and, finally, finish.
For example, a stone faceted correctly, the light reflected from the inside of the stone at the correct angles to achieve maximum shine and sparkle. On the other hand, the miscalculation of the angles of the cuts in the gem, leads to a path of light that does not favor the brightness. Therefore, the cutting, when well done, enhances the color and shine of the gem.
Size
The size of the stone (number of carats) is also very relevant. Um carat is a unit of weight checked for diamonds and other precious stones. One carat is equal to 200 milligrams (0,200 gram, which is equivalent to saying that 1 gram = 5 carats).
A two-carat stone will be worth more than two one-carat stones. It is also worth mentioning that the stones have different densities, so it can happen that two stones of the same size have different weights, or that a smaller stone is sold at a higher price than a larger stone, due to the greater market value of this stone. That's why it's important to look at jewelry descriptions before buying them.
These are the main premises for defining the value of a stone. After that, they must be combined with personal taste, which is the true guide for buying any style item. Within this universe, there are also particular fashion trends, such as colored stones, which are extremely different.

It's possible! There will likely be losses in size and caratage. We hope we helped!
