This fact may be associated with its recent recognition. Despite having been found thousands of years ago, it was only in 1911 that gemologists named and certified it as a legitimate gemstone, and not just as a variation of a beryl mineral.

The stone was named after an American banker and collector named JP Morgan. In its natural form, it can be found as a crystal or a petrified raisin, with few inclusions. Its pink color is the result of the presence of manganese and iron in its composition, but it can also appear in pinkish-orange and salmon tones, always translucent (the variation of chemical elements is what will be responsible for the tone).

Minas Gerais is one of the Brazilian states that produces the most, however, morganite can also be found in deposits in countries such as Afghanistan, Madagascar and the United States.
