Green, pink or blue? Out of these, what is your favorite color? Know that in Brazil there is a beautiful precious stone that comes in all these shades and composes exquisitely refined jewels. Were you curious to know which gem this is? In today's post from the series “The precious stones of Brazil” you will get to know the Brazilian tourmalines! Keep following and check it out!
The characteristics of Brazilian tourmalines
Brazilian tourmalines are a group of minerals that are found in nature in a wide range of colors, reaching a hundred different shades. They have a vitreous luster, from transparent to opaque. In its chemical composition, manganese, chromium, cobalt, nickel and titanium are present.
There is no other gem in nature that is as complex as tourmaline. Like garnets, they are part of a group of gemstones with several species. In the same crystal, one can easily find two or more colors, which allows such plurality. Of all the species known worldwide, the ones that stand out the most for their differentials are the paraiba tourmalines, which have a deep blue tone.
Paraíba tourmaline and its most beautiful blue
Discovered in the Northeast in the 80s, Paraíba tourmaline soon caught the attention of the entire world for its unique shade, called neon blue. This beautiful and rare Brazilian gem can only be found in five mines spread across the planet, of which three are located in Brazil. Because it is an almost extinct gemstone, this tourmaline is coveted all over the world, which makes its values reach up to R$3 million.
As much as it is not more expensive than the already famous diamond, the paraiba tourmaline present in a jewel gives elegance and exclusivity to the piece and, consequently, to those who wear it. Collectors and other lovers of precious stones have it basically as an art object, to be appreciated and displayed on very special occasions.
Brazilian tourmalines and commemorative dates
When a couple completes 16 years of marriage, the Wedding of Tourmaline is celebrated. The occasion can — and deserves — be symbolically represented by a piece of jewelry that contains a precious stone that bears its name. Among the indications, we can mention pink tourmaline, which represents the synergy of the heart through unconditional love.
Now, if you want to give a gift to a professional who is starting his career or who already has a certain prestige, the green tourmaline symbolizes social workers and nutritionists; and pink tourmaline for graduates in accounting sciences.
But regardless of the commemorative date, presenting a special person with a jewel that contains a tourmaline is something that will certainly be kept in the memory of those who present and those who receive it.
And you, do you already have your jewel with a tourmaline? How about giving someone like this treat? What's your favorite color? Share in the comments and keep an eye out for our series on stones from Brazil!

Excellent explanation and beautiful photos. I am a collector and I am amazed by all these stones, I would like one day to be able to mine and come face to face with one of these gems. However, I would be immensely happy to have in my collection a small stone imperial topaz and paraiba tourmaline. Taking advantage of the space, I have some stones that I am having difficulty knowing what the name is, I am cataloging the stones and I have doubts. I would like to be able to show mine collection for a professional in the area for guidelines. I loved the Blog, congratulations.

I have a very beautiful stone, I'm from Maranhão, and I found it in the land. She is transparent and has the strong colors of the rainbow. There are no specialists here, I would really like some help from you or a gemologist.
Hello Marcelino, we do not work with this type of gem analysis. In order for you to certify the veracity of the gems as well as obtain the certificate of authenticity, we suggest the GIA Institute, which does not have an office in Brazil, which does not prevent you from making direct contact with them and sending the material via Sedex. And in Brazil, we suggest the IBGM laboratory:
