From September 13th to 19th, the Hong Kong Jewelery & Gem Fair will take place, one of the most important events in the jewelry and precious stones sector in the world. Held for more than 30 years, the initiative attracts almost 60 visitors and more than 3 exhibitors, including from Brazil, which will participate in 2017 with 37 companies supported by the Precious Brazil sector project, of the Brazilian Institute of Gems and Precious Metals ( IBGM) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil).
Hong Kong represents 14% of all exports by companies supported by the sectoral project. Considering the total exports of gems, jewels, costume jewelry and veneer to the country, more than 85% are attributed to Precious Brazil companies. From January to July 2017, Brazil exported more than US$12 million to the province, with US$10 million attributed to Precious Brazil companies. For Márcio Duarte, commercial director of Duarte & Bastos, a company from Minas Gerais that sells gems, the fair is an important promotional tool and brings together the entire market in one place. “These companies are willing to do business,” he explains. “In this sense, all efforts and investments made by Apex-Brasil through the Precious Brazil sectoral project encourage us and help us achieve our goals”.
André Luiz da Silva, president of Empire Industries, believes that the project brings new perspectives to the company in the international trade of gems and jewels. “The sector will certainly benefit from the promotional actions adopted by our supporters, which immediately generate expectations of improved sales”, he says, mentioning Hong Kong. For Julio Antonio Miranda Costa, owner of MCGemas, the Asian fair has everything to be the best in recent years. “We are feeling an upturn in the stone market, which had been depressed by the international crisis”, he says.
For Manuela Soares, partner at Art Ouro & Gemas, the expectation is that Precious Brazil will create an identity for the jewelry and precious stones segment to strengthen the sector. “Rescuing the image of a country that produces extremely rare gemstones, full of life and color, the initiative will strengthen our market position and enhance the rarest thing we have to present to the world: our vividly colored gemstones and our incredible cutting” , argues. Murilo Graciano, owner of JG Stones, concludes: “The Precious Brazil project walks along with Brazilian businessmen towards success in international fairs”.
