The history of Minas Gerais begins with the search for mineral wealth in the state. The records of the first discoveries of gems in the State of Minas Gerais date back to 1554, when the first Entrances and Bandeiras took place that traveled through the interior of Brazil in search of gold and other riches. Today the State is known internationally for its subsoil rich in minerals and rare specimens for collection, being the main producer of gold, colored gems and diamonds.
Even after so many years of exploration, there are still soils rich in precious stones in Minas Gerais. Those who live in Minas don't even realize it, but they are stepping on one of the richest soils in the country.
Minas Gerais is the largest producer of precious stones in the country, according to the National Department of Mineral Production. The main mining centers are the municipalities of Ouro Preto, Itabira, Nova Era, Guanhães, Governador Valadares, Teófilo Otoni, Araçuaí, Turmalina, Malacacheta, Corinto and Diamantina.
In addition to gold, the main precious gems found in the state are emerald, aquamarine, Diamond, tourmaline, alexandrite (figure 1), chrysoberyl (figure 2), morganite, heliodorus (figure 3), cat's eye (figure 4), kunzite, andalusite (figure 5), pomegranate, amethyst (figure 6) and citrine (figure 7). The State still has the production of exclusive gems found in the region, such as imperial topaz, which is extracted in the municipality of Ouro Preto.

Good night!
I'm an artisan and I'm going to launch a collection of wooden pieces, for export, with Gems from Mines and I'd like to know where to buy the gems for work.
A leaflet containing the history and location of these gems in Minas Gerais and also curiosities about them will be attached to this collection.
Hello magda, how are you? What an amazing idea!!!
Who knows, we might not be able to contribute to your project. We also work with the sale of gems.
