Looking for a pair of wedding rings or an engagement ring and not sure whether to opt for a diamond or a zirconia when choosing the gemstone? Relax, this is much more common than you might think.
Many people still have doubts about the difference between zirconia and diamond. Today we are going to clarify this issue once and for all. Let's take a look?
What is zirconia? There is in nature a rare mineral that is the result of the crystallization of zirconium oxide, known as baddeleyite and, for this reason, it is called zirconia. Its unique and intense shine is generated by the incidence of light on the gem. In natural zirconia, the most frequent colors are grayish and red, while the rarest are the transparent ones.
However, the most known, spoken and used zirconia is synthetic or cubic zirconia – the same composition as the natural one, but crystallized in a cubic shape -, a gem developed in the laboratory that is the most perfect imitation of diamond. Cubic zirconia is extremely durable and has numerous color variations, which makes it possible to imitate other gemstones.
What is diamond?
Diamond is a natural gem formed from carbon. Man's only interference is in the cutting process, which must value its natural characteristics. A good cut obeys rules of correct proportion and with a greater reflection of light, they give a glamorous shine to the stone.
Because they are natural, diamonds have small inclusions, the less there are, the more valuable the diamond. A diamond without inclusions is extremely rare and therefore even more valuable. The inclusions are part of the “fingerprint” of the stone. Discover here how to evaluate the grade of diamonds.Source: Reisman

And now, which one to choose?
If the budget is tight, opt for zirconia. Otherwise, always choose the diamond. Did not understand? People explain...
Diamond has a higher cost-benefit ratio, despite its high value: it is the hardest stone found in nature (hardness can be understood as the difficulty in scratching the stone)! Therefore, they are very durable stones.
Due to this scratch resistance, the stone does not become opaque over time. Thus, as the idea is precisely the durability of the jewel, the diamond is the most advantageous option. With care, a diamond jewel can become a family piece and cross generations.
On the other hand, zirconia, a stone of excellent quality, durable, shiny and with an immense variety of colors, can be used as a perfect reproduction of precious stones, guaranteeing the wearer exuberant beauty at an affordable price.
